About Us

The Russian term "skete" is best rendered in the English "monastery". The Skete at Crosswood Centre monastics are all members of the Orthodox-Catholic Church of America. The Skete embraces the ancient tradition of welcoming single and partnered monastics -- all take vows reflecting the fundamental realities of life lived in a communal context with a large measure of privacy and personal responsibility. The monastics of the Skete at Crosswood Centre either live at the Skete or are part of the Skete as externs. The decision to either live at the Skete or be an extern is an individual decision.
The monastics in residence are the ones primarily responsible for the well-being of the property, for hospitality with visitors and for on-going Crosswood Centre programs such as retreats, private spiritual journeying, theological study and healing ministry.
Each monastic is self-supporting (hold secular jobs outside of the Skete), contributing to the welfare of the Skete and the atmosphere of prayer and caring at the Centre.
If you have an interest in monastic life as it is lived in the Skete at Crosswood Centre, please visit the different web pages within this web site and visit the web sites of our dependencies that are attached to the Skete as found on the Ministries & Dependencies page. Also feel free to read about our Jurisdiction which you will find a link to its web site on the Links page. Our Metropolitan will be happy to answer your e-mail inquiry or USPS letters sent to: The Skete at Crosswood Centre, 5355 C.R. 35, Auburn, IN. 46706-9717.
We ask your prayers for the resident, non-resident monastics and associates that the Lord's will may be accomplished and the Mystery of the Triune God celebrated with faith, hope and love.
